Not worth fixing it. Just buy one... you can get a wireless KB with wireless mouse for about 40.00 or just a basic KB for 12-15....
It's somewhat iffy depending on what type of keyboard you have. Try turning off the computer, unplugging the keyboard, pulling the ''f'' key off (start slowly at one side and move to the other), use a ''canned'' air can to spray out any gunk, and then try to ''snap'' the key back on. You very well might break the keyboard if you do that though... but maybe trying it is better than nothing. otherwise, go to walmart (or best buy or whatever) and buy a new keyboard for (well) under $50.
If it is a laptop, a new keyboard is the only way to go and it will run you about $30 or $40. Fortunately they are easy to replace (all you need is one small flathead screwdriver and one small Phillips head). If it is a regular desktop keyboard, you could try salvaging an f key from another keyboard that you don't use or just buy a new one for $5.
If it's a notebook, its better to replace the whole keyboard. It takes about 10 mins and can be done by anybody. It should be covered by your warranty. If its a desktop kb, you may need to glue it on, there are differeent connectors, bayonet and scissors, both work by just pressing it on. You might want to take this time to get a good ergonomic kb.

If people were paid more, they would have more money to spend, so therefore, yes I do think that people would buy more personal computers. If you think about it... a lot of like inner city children don't have computers because their parents are stuck working minimum wage jobs. If those jobs paid more, the parents would probably try to buy computers for their children. It's really hard nowadays to go through school without one. Do all that math %26 then you may realize that a PCs price comes from a lot more than the simple sum of its parts.

Just an old PC with linux on it will do it. You won't have any problem networking PC's and macs together that way either.

If you look at many folks in IT working for IBM, Motorola etc. A lot of these guys are not even graduates in IT but ave degrees n Accounts, Law etc. Maybe a reflection of why the IT industry is being move lock stock and barrel to India and China where guys there do seem to at least have an IT degree. Personally I have an IT degree but If was to start again I would go to Sun and get certfication on their Java courses or go to Microsoft and get on a MCSE course. C# on .Net is a huge job shortage area at the moment globally and i reckon getting a certificate in this would help hugely getting a job

It depends on how fast your internet connection is and whether your multiple computers are being used simultaneously. If you have a typical internet connection of 3 megabits/sec or so, then the 54 mb/s throughput of an 802.11g router should be fine.

You just need to get a ''ROUTER''. They are not too expensive and can be found at places like Circuit City.

They are easy to hook up, and come with directions, some with CD instructions.

However you will also need enough cable/wire to go from the main to the other computers. They are available to connect from 1-4 computers.

Attach the printer by the USB cable to one of your printers.

Load the drivers.

During the load you will be ask if you want to share the printer. Tell it yes.

Once loaded, you will be able to go into My Network Places on any other computer and see that printer.

Click on it and it will install on the second computer.

After that, you will be able to print to the printer from the second computer also.

What it really does is network the file over to the first computer and the first computer prints it. But the person using the first computer does not see anything or have to do anything.

It does require that the first computer be turned on. It does not have to be logged into, or can be locked).

Try yellowpages and business directories. In most cases, you will need to visit each companies website to find the correct email address. Consider using the email address of human resource department. Look for employment oppertunities, job pages on their site.

Is it further away from the router/access point or are there more walls? It could be a weak signal, try moving the wireless adapter or access point (or repositioning their antennas) or seeing if yours has a transmit power adjustment.

Is there a cordless phone, or cell phone, nearby? Our 2.4Ghz cordless phone caused the adapter to disconnect every time it was in use. My nephew's cell phone causes periodic disconnections when it contacts the local cell - even when no one's talking on it.

Most service providers give you 2 mac address for your internet connection and one is required for the router. If you had you computers on the internet before you bought the router, then hooked up the router, it will likley have taken one of the mac address. You have only one left to split two ways.

I build computers as a part time job to make the odd bit of profit but it is not enough tot live on. If you want to make money out of building have a main job that ways well and build PCs in your spare time to get a few more pounds.

Well if you want to work at a shop you might not have to have A+ certification just to build for people. Honestly once you build your first one the rest are just testing yourself to see how fast you can configure your hardware and install all necessary software. You can install it on as many computers as you want, but the catch is that only 1 player can play online. When another person tries to log in, Blizzard won't let him. Each account is tied to a CD key so only 1 CD key can be in use at one time.

Yeah pretty much anything else in the system can affect the performance. Typically it is the hard drive speed (cache, RPMs, etc) or the CPU cache. If it is a highly used server, it might be getting hung up on IO read/writes or something...well I guess not, since you are talking about 2 computers.

On a 100MBit connection you have a download speed of around 12 MB/s how on earth can you tell if one computer is slower then the other with that speed ?

Anyway, you should check that you laptop doesn't have any kind of spyware / viruses that are using your internet connection, or other background processes that are using up bandwidth.

A keylogger may be what you're looking for. Keyloggers log every keystroke a person types. Some even have special features that email you screenshots at a set interval. (Note: there are also hardware keyloggers that you physically plug in between the keyboard and computer).

I don't know if this is what you're looking for but I'd suggest the Pyxis system. It's basically a drug vending machine used at nurse's stations in hospitals. So what would remain to be done at that point, I believe, is to design a structure for this machine that we want to build, that will enable it to be aware of itsself. Such a challenge would require us to know more about how our own brain works, and I suppose that this would also help us towards a more extensive knowledge about the human brain.

I am not so sure if I can answer your problem right but here goes :

1) i think that your network cards may be at an area where the wireless connection is not so strong. So in effect, it cannot get maximum speed :)

2) if number 1 is false, then check the network card settings of each device. The cards may have been configured to use either minimal power or their respective maximum speed of communication has been pre-set.

3) as for your laptop, the minimal speed of 3mbps may be caused by you running on batteries :) In laptops you can also force your system to maximize power for the wireless network card.

Where is your DSL connection located? Since you said one computer is in the basement and the other is in the kitchen a router will not not simply resolve your problem. You will need a Wireless Router to do this, check with your ISP as to wether you need an ADSL or DSL one. Before anyone says different yes you can do this with 98
You need a router. That will allow you to connect the DSL line to the router and both computers to the router. This allows both computers to be on at the same time AND share the connection. It doesn't matter what each one is using for an OS (unless you are sharing files between the two. At which point, the 98 can give files to the vista, but cannot read from it. This is due to different filing formats (98 being fat32 and vista being NTFS)).
if you get a router that has wireless capabilities, you can also get usb wireless devices [linksys makes one that is quite good] or, you can run hard lines, cables to each one...the pc's do NOT have to be in close proximity to the modem and router in either case, cable costs a bit, but I ran a 60 ft cable to my daughters before we both got laptops and went wireless, so its up to you..the OS on each doesn't matter, my daughter uses a mac and I have a compaq with vista basic.

Set your wireless router to be a bridge (if that's possible with your model) and set the SSID to bridge to the same of the wireless signal that you are hijacking.
That depends. Is your wireless signal coming from your internet box? If so, does your internet box have a LAN port on it? If it does, you can connect a LAN cable from that LAN port in your internet box to the WAN port on your wired router. Get a cheap hub or switch. A switch is better -- hubs are ancient technology by comparision. You can get a 4 or 5 port workgroup switch for less than $50.00.

Trying to use 2 NICs in one machine is going to be a major exercise in frustration. It would be feasible if the one with 2 NICs was a server, but with desktops it will be a pig. (I'm a network engineer and I wouldn't even try it!)

I've got slow ethernet communication between two computers connected by hub... What should I do

I'm using a hub to share a DSL internet connection between 2 computers and my XBOX. I suppose that, since we're already there, I can network the 2 PCs so I can file share and stuff like that. My main PC uses XP professional, the other one uses windows 2000 pro.

I can call up a directory in the 2000 machine from my XP, but when I try to copy a, lets say, 5 MB file... the copying takes a lifetime.

Now, I'm not a CCNA, but I know enough to say that there seems to be network collision occuring when I try to communicate directly between the 2 PCs. When one of them tries to transmit, both NICs xmit lights glow and the collision detection light on my hub goes on too. Then there's a pause, which I assume is the Ethernet Collision Detection algorithm going on... then it repeats until the file is eventually xmitted... long time later.

Must point out that the internet connection works fine for all 3 pieces of equipment.

There's a very valid reason for those sites being blocked. If you're surfing to places like that with absolutely zero educational value, you're not learning anything. And believe me, learn everything you can. Just making a decent living, comparable to what your parents provide you with now, is extremely cutthroat. Education is your biggest guarantee that you'll be as comfortable after you graduate as you are at home right now.

The other reason is safety and school legal liability for anything that might happen to you through contacts you've made on the internet while at school.

Do you really want to risk being hurt, getting your parents involved in a big ugly lawsuit while trying to deal with whatever happens to you?

Are the wireless cards different or the same? Different brands aren't always the same (even if the label says 54mbps b/g or something like that). Many times, cheaper versions aren't as strong with their signals as name brands like linksys or belkin. For example, a wireless 54 b/g from linksys will get a MUCH better reception strength than a 15$ trendnet 54 b/g card. Also, some places in a house are known as ''dead'' zones. Try moving your computer around a bit. Also, check your settings on your wireless card, you can up the gain to max so that it is on full power. One other thing, if you hvae the antenae that came with the card, make sure it is fully screwed in and adjust the antenae in every way to see which way gets you the best reception.

*Note: walls, floors, ceilings and everything in the way of the card and the router make for lower receptivity. Watch out for that.

I suspect you have a bad card. Switch the cards between the 2 computers. If the problem follows the card return it and get a new card. If it doesn't the problem is with your computer, drivers, or the configuration of the card.

It should be ok to use the same Office CD to install on many different computers with the same keycode. Have you tried it?
I have never had a problem loading Office on 2 PCs. I think Microsoft assumes 1 for home and 1 for office. Give it a try. One time it made me call an automated system, but it gave me the key. Worked fine.

If you install on one computer and use the internet for activation then install on the other computer and use the phone for activation it should work. If they know that it has been installed previously tell them you are re-installing it.

I did this awhile back, it should work fine. I installed it on my laptop, the house computer, and my cousin's laptop. If not then just purchase another product key, when you pop in the disk, and it dont let you use the product key you already have, it should have a option of purchasing another one online.

In internet explorer (I presume the browser the x's are in, picture files that are not found on the webserver show up as a blank space with an x. In Mozilla Firefox, the picture images are not shown at all, which is why the site seems smooth to you.

I have seen this problem before when the image is not uploaded to the web site. Right click on the image on your web page on your computer and select ''Properties''. What is the URL (Address) of the image? If it is on your hard drive (has an address like file://... or C:\...) and not on the web server (has an address like http://) then you will only be able to view it on your computer.

If the address is on the web server, perhaps you could share the URL of the page and we could have a look at it?
