you should never open or close it without using the button or you will destroy the carriage mechanizm

It got sick. Take it to the doctor to see a PC specialist.
it may be mechanical failure .. or it may need the firmware reloaded ..
Hmm it might be locked. Did it recieve any damage to that component? Heres the fix, sometimes disk jam,

Or, there could not be enough power transfering to that component,

Or, that component lost communication and cannot communicate with the BIOS (*Basic Input Output System AKA Your computer %26%26 NOT WINDOWS!!! %26%26 *)

Anyways, this may help you. (*Works better with PC's and not laptops, since pc repair is kind of easier*)

WARNING:

---------------

This tutorial should be used ONLY if you have EXPERIENCE with computers, if not just take it to a computer person,

Get a screw driver that matches the screws on your computer,

take it apart, Attempt to remove the DVD Tray,

Once removed search for any debris that may have occured inside the DVD PLAYER.

Insert DVD tray and rescrew case
