You would probably want mechanical engineering, electronics, and computers. But it's worth it because it's such a big industry and so enjoyable.
There are actually more categories than simply electronics and computers. Some robots are pneumatically powered with air compressors while others are hydrolic. Examples? These types of robots are common in places such as Chuck E. Cheese, Disney World, other amusement parks and other restaurants. The animals found in Rain Forest Cafe are actually powered by water believe it or not. Robots cover a huge spectrum with many sub-categories so it just really depends on exactly what kind of robot you are referring to. Entertainment robots (Animatronics) are a whole different exciting field of robotics to consider that many don't think about. There are many categories of study with in the creation of animatronics alone: such programming movements, designing the scenery, lighting, making costumes and masks, building the robots themselves, the control systems, and providing the voices and music. Those are a few of the other fields you might consider. Of course if you are interested in space robots or industrial robots there are many other ways to be involved with those.
