Recent medical discoveries/innovations made possible by better computers and the Internet?

Hi...I'm helping an author write a book. He needs some specific examples of recent medical breakthroughs (say in the last 10 years or so), new drugs, or innovations made possible by the increased processing speed of computers and/or the ability to communicate quickly over long distances. Suggestions can be in any aspect of medicine, but we are especially interested in cancer, heart disease, diabetes, or obesity.

The more specific details or links you can provide the better, since we will have to source our references in the book.

Thanks to everyone who contributes.

64 Slice CT Scans (Computed Tomography)

scans are more detailed with a higher resolution for a better Dx or repeated scans. Faster computers have helped innovate this.

Da Vinci Robotics - assistance and or manipulation of surgical instruments in the O/R via a robot.

hope this helps.

I don't know if this is what you're looking for but I'd suggest the Pyxis system. It's basically a drug vending machine used at nurse's stations in hospitals. It keeps the drugs secure and accounted for. They have a website, just google ''pyxis''. It's way faster and more secure than the old med carts. (I'm a pharmacy student.)
Here's one you probably haven't thought about...but insurance billing. All of it is done online and instead of taking weeks to sort it out, it takes minutes (excluding a problem of course...then it's still weeks ;) ).
